Californians who may be missing work because of the novel coronavirus can now apply for benefits through the state’s EDD. Specific policies instituted as a result of the coronavirus can be seen here (also available in Spanish). The department is providing workers and caregivers various options to collect payment.
Sick or quarantined Californians who are unable to work as a result of the virus can file a disability insurance claim online.
If you’re unable to work because you’re taking care of a sick or quarantined relative with COVID-19, you can file a paid family leave claim, according to EDD.
Those who have had reduced hours or have lost their job due to their employer shutting down operations, can file an unemployment insurance claim.

To help slow the spread of coronavirus, eight Bay Area counties have issued shelter-in-place orders that require people to stay at home and leave only for essential activities. The orders began going into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, and cover the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Sonoma as well as the City of Berkeley. Napa County has announced orders that will go into effect on Friday. Santa Cruz and Lake counties are also requiring residents to shelter in their homes.
The orders are currently effective until April 7.

This thread is very bleak. A report on the #ImperialCollege report on Covid-19 models.
I kinda think we are all expecting something like this. My guess is real life will fall short of full #suppression. We just won’t be able to do it. But we will come close.
We can now read the Imperial College report on COVID-19 that led to the extreme measures we've seen in the US this week. Read it; it's terrifying. I'll offer a summary in this thread; please correct me if I've gotten it wrong.https://t.co/AwE2cHIbeJ

Strap in everyone – time to get busy.
I am an ER physician and I have COVID-19.
I have spoken with occupational health and the department of public health. I likely did not put anybody else at risk of contracting Coronavirus and probably didn’t get it at work. I have notified all close contacts. My symptoms are mild (headaches, muscle soreness, slight cough, low grade temperature) and all of them improve with Tylenol, Motrin and some Gatorade. I have plenty of toilet paper at home (I also have food, water, medications). My dad is calling me every 6 hours to check in. My brother and sister-in-law live ten blocks away and they are checking in on me. I am doing OK. Stay vigilant with hand washing and social distancing.
Love yourselves, believe in humility, civility and humanity.
